5 Thanksgiving Recipes That Kids Can Help Make

The holiday season is the perfect time to cook delicious food with your family. The first thing that comes to mind when someone talks about the Thanksgiving holiday is the big stuffed turkey that is prepared. Poultry, stuffed vegetables, sweets, and a whole lot of scrumptious food is what makes this holiday a special one. Thanksgiving traditions include friends and family coming together from near and far to celebrate the holiday together. This year, with a global pandemic, it might not be possible to do so. Therefore, make it memorable by involving your kids in the elaborate preparations. Here are 5 Thanksgiving recipes that are so easy that your kids can help you make them:

1. Pumpkin Patch Pudding Cups

Set the vibe with this simple and delicious recipe. It’s easy to make and perfect for involving kids.

Ingredients:

  • Chocolate pudding
  • Chocolate cream cookies
  • Green sugar crystal sprinkles
  • Mellow creme pumpkins

What You Need:

  • Clear plastic cups
  • Paper straw
  • Craft sticks
  • Hot glue
  • Paint

Method:

  • Prepare soft-serve chocolate pudding and fill it in the plastic cups about 3/4th. You can also use instant pudding.
  • Crush some chocolate cookies using a spoon or fingertips and sprinkle it on top of the pudding to resemble “dirt”.
  • Place a few mellow creme pumpkins into the pudding and press down to create a look like they are in the “dirt”.
  • You can also add a few sprinkles of green sugar or leaf-shaped sprinkles if you like.
  • While the pudding sets, make the pumpkin patch signs with craft sticks and glue and place it in the pudding.

2. Peanut Butter Cups Turkey

For all you peanut butter lovers, here’s a recipe that your kids are sure to enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 8 peanut butter cups
  • 8 dark peanut butter cups (mini)
  • Candy corn
  • 16 candy eyes
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Method:

  • Unwrap all the candy and keep aside.
  • Melt chocolate chips in the microwave until smooth.
  • Pour the melted chocolate into a plastic bag and cut small pieces off the corner.
  • Create mini turkey shapes with the help of the melted chocolate.
  • Place the candy eyes and candy corn on the chocolate to make the turkey’s eyes and feathers.
  • Let the chocolate sit until firm.

3. Turkey Cookies

Similar to the peanut butter cups recipe, but with cookies, your kids would love this recipe just as much.

Ingredients:

  • Gingersnap
  • Candy corns
  • Chocolate frosting
  • Red hot edible buttons
  • Chocolate candy

How To Make:

  • Using a sharp knife, cut small sections at the end of the gingersnap.
  • Spread the edge with frosting and place 5 candy corns to look like feathers.
  • Use chocolate frosting and place the decorated gingersnap on the plain gingersnap.
  • With chocolate frosting, glue a red hot edible button to the front of the chocolate candy.

4. Pumpkin Pie

Who said a pumpkin is only to make a Jack-O-Lantern? You can make a mean pumpkin pie with it too!

Ingredients:

  • Store-bought or homemade pie crust
  • Brown sugar
  • All-purpose flour
  • Table salt
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Ground ginger
  • Ground nutmeg
  • Ground cloves
  • Eggs lightly beaten
  • Pumpkin puree
  • Evaporated milk

Method:

  • Preheat the oven to 400℉.

If you’re a F.R.I.E.N.D.S fan, you will recall how Chandler prides himself on making the Cranberry Sauce, and Monica says that a monkey could have made it. We agree with Monica because it’s just that simple!

Ingredients:

  • 12 ounces of cranberry
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup of orange juice

Method:

  • Take a medium-sized saucepan and heat.
  • Once it is heated to a medium temperature, dissolve the sugar in the orange juice.
  • Stir in the cranberries and wait until it starts to pop (about 10 minutes).
  • Remove the saucepan from the stove and keep aside to cool.
  • As it cools, the cranberry sauce will thicken.

Thanksgiving is a joyous time for young and old. The elaborate spread that is prepared is a treat for everyone to enjoy. But most of the time, kids are not involved in the process of making the food.
