“They do not love that do not show their love.” – William Shakespeare

As clichéd as it might sound, relationships need love to function. This love doesn’t need to be concealed in your thoughts; it must be out in the open.

When it comes to relationships, no two are the same. Still, some people resort to comparing their life to the oh-so-perfect life of others. It is just like comparing your friend’s iPhone to your Nokia; they’re different, get over it!

更糟糕的是一些自称righteous people might end up giving you suggestions. Advice is not an accurate measure of the success in a relationship, as everyone’s context is unique. If you ask two people regarding the same situation, their answers are going to be poles apart no matter how experienced or how rational they are. Hence, it is crucial that you don’t start to follow other couples and their advice blindly. Nobody knows your story better than you, so go with your gut.

We chose to delve into some of these incredibly toxic suggestions that pop out of people when they hear you got into a relationship. If you ever get to hear one of these, go deaf!

1. “You Should Find Someone Better To Move On”

If you go into a relationship thinking about what you can gain from it, then you’re not on the right track. Merely looking to seek profit is not an apt reason to begin or end any relationship. If you do so, then you might wreck a perfectly good marriage or stumble upon a beginning that won’t bring you any happiness.

2. “Make Sure They Know Who’s Boss”

From a personal viewpoint, I don’t believe that relationships need one person being dominant and another one being a pushover. In a healthy and loving marriage, each partner has their area of expertise where they shine. Your husband might iron that shirt better than you, or you can do those taxes better. So, it is a two-way street. Mutual understanding and support will make your relationship better!

3.“闭上你的嘴。不使情况变得更糟”

When there is love between two people, conflicts are inevitable. It is your way of handling these disputes that matters most. Suppressing your emotions merely to keep the peace will never result in a balanced relationship. Instead of playing the victim card, express your fears, worries or concerns, and resolve them together. This will enable you to understand your partner better making your bond stronger than ever.

While sometimes it could be a genuine mistake, most people do this to give wind to their insecurities and jealousies. Interfering with your partner’s personal life (reading texts, making intrusive calls, or tracking their whereabouts) is considered to be a sign of abusive behaviour in a family (1).

5. “Always Ask Your Partner To Be More Romantic”

Every relationship moves at its own pace. Usually starting as butterflies in the stomach, it slowly moves on to be more stable and comforting. The honeymoon period, as some may call it, revolves around feeling overly romantic, and getting extremely excited on seeing your partner. But this is short-term (2). You are not living the real-life version of “Love Actually,” so ease out on those complaints.

So, no matter how many of your friends and family members give you such pieces of advice, you must know what’s best for yourself and your partner to live happily. If you have also heard some absurd advice regarding your relationships, comment below to let us know!
