You’ve grown and delivered a tiny human, and the impact this can have on your body is immense! You’ve finally got your little bundle of joy in your arms, but that is not all. You’ve also got sore, bruised, and probably torn lady parts as well. No matter if you’ve had a complicated or an easy birth — these struggles are something you can’t miss. Childbirth can cause your body to undergo a certain degree of trauma, and it is important to recover (1). The healing process in itself can be a painful one, which is why you should make use of anything and everything that provides you some respite! A padsicle is one such item that can help bring relief to your postpartum pain.

You won’t find these cold wonders at stores, but you’ll definitely thank your lucky stars for having stumbled on this article! Read on to find out what a padsicle is and how you can make your own:

What Exactly Is A Padsicle?

A padsicle is essentially a sanitary pad that is chilled or frozen. The term is derived from “pad” and “popsicle”. Never in your wildest dreams would you have thought that something that’s derived from the word “popsicle” could bring relief to your nether regions, but here we are!

Giving birth is not a walk in the park. It is painful, and the road to recovery isn’t any less painful either. You can’t entirely do away with the pain, but you can do a few things to provide a little respite. This is where the padsicle comes in. A padsicle can soothe your lady parts. Since it is cold, it can also help with the swelling you are experiencing. If you’ve had stitches down there, you’ll love the cooling sensation that comes with a padsicle. Many women suffer from hemorrhoids after childbirth, which may cause pain and discomfort in your rear end (2). A padsicle can help with this as well.

The sad thing is that you won’t find this product at stores, but the good news is that you can make a padsicle yourself, and it is super easy! Once you make your own padsicle (we’ll tell you how), you can use it just like you use your regular sanitary pads. Or, you can place them inside your adult diaper if you’ve been using one.

How To Make Your Own Padsicle

It won’t take you much time to make a padsicle. Many women make them well in advance, probably in their third trimester, so they can use them when they need them. This makes sense, as after delivery, you’re too tired to do anything. Here’s how you can do it:

To make a padsicle, you will require aluminum foil, sanitary pads, and witch hazel. You can also use lavender essential oil or unscented aloe vera gel, but these two are optional.

Wash your hands before you begin making a padsicle to prevent any germs or chances of infection. Cut some aluminum foil and place it on your table. You will be using this to wrap your sanitary pad, so use it liberally. Take a new sanitary pad, preferably one that is used for overnight protection. Lay this on the aluminum foil, with the sticky side facing downwards, so it sticks to the foil. Apply some witch hazel on the pad. Witch hazel is effective for treating postpartum pain (3). You can then add the aloe vera gel and lavender essential oil. Make sure they are chemical-free and a hundred percent pure. Once this is done, you can gently wrap the pad in the aluminum foil and store it in the freezer. Your padsicle is ready!

Make sure you maintain proper hygiene when making your padsicles. These DIY padsicles are safe to use and extremely effective, but it’s always good to check with your doctor before using them. It’s a great idea to stock up on a few of them if your due date is near. What do you think of these padsicles? Have you used them lately? Let us know in the comments below!
