10 Things Not To Say To A Pregnant Lady

No doubt, pregnancy is a joyous time. Everyone you see will have tons of opinions and questions about your pregnancy. While some are quite harmless, there are a whole bunch of comments that are downright offensive and rude to utter to someone while they are expecting. And, in case, you are clueless as to what those are, here are 10 things not to say to a pregnant woman.

1. “Wow! You Sure It’s Not Twins?”

They will let you know if they’re expecting twins, you don’t have to comment about it. Women always feel the pressure about their bump looking a certain way. They don’t need that when pregnant.

2. “Where’s The Pregnancy Glow?”

Do you see me glowing? No. Then don’t comment on it. Each woman’s body reacts differently to the pregnancy hormone, and if you don’t see the glow, don’t make her feel bad about it.

3. “Enjoy While You Can ‘Cause It’s Not Going To Last”

Pregnancy is not a smooth ride, and she already has so much running through her mind. From constant mood swings to prenatal depression in some cases, to piling on weight, a pregnant woman goes through a lot physically and emotionally. Telling her it’s only going to get tough from here is probably not what she wants to hear right now.

4. “You Look Like You Are About To Burst.”

The worst thing you can do is body shame a woman when she is expecting a baby. It makes them conscious about their weight and even the baby’s. Pregnant or not, nobody wants to be commented on their size.

5. “Are You Sure It’s Not Your Due Date Yet? It’s Been Forever.”

Again, all mothers-to-be will know when their due date is. It’s that simple.

6. “What Went Wrong With Birth Control?”

Assuming that the baby was a mistake is downright rude. And if she wants to share the details of how, where, and when, she will. If not, it’s probably best to stick with “Congratulations.”

7. “You Sure You Want To Eat/Drink That?”

If a woman is pregnant, she probably knows what’s best for her baby. You don’t need to make her feel guilty about indulging in a cup of coffee or ice cream. Besides, there might be tons of books she referred to before having that drink, so let her enjoy! Unless you are her doctor or midwife, it’s best to avoid making such remarks.

8. “When Are You Planning To Get Back On Shape?”

If she wants to get back into shape, she will. Or, if she chooses to flaunt those extra pounds, that’s her choice. Women have every right to embrace their body in any shape or form.

9. “You Are Too Young/Old To Have Kids.”

Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but there are times when it’s better to keep it to yourself. Having a baby at any age is a beautiful experience, and if they are pregnant, they probably know what they are doing.

你真的要这样做吗?她可能知道how it’s going to be going into labor. Cut her some slack. And maybe she will have an easy labor, who knows. Telling the worst thing about labor is only going to make her anxious.

If anything, pregnancy is a time where a woman needs to feel comfort and assurance about everything. You don’t need to be a genius to figure out that body shaming or giving them a panic attack is not what you should do. So, be a bit more respectful and let them enjoy being pregnant.
