7 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Became A Mom Blogger

With the internet being easily accessible to everyone just at their fingertips, the number of bloggers has increased largely over the years. It is great to be a blogger because it gives you the freedom to passionately express yourself about matters that you like. You’re free to talk about anything under the sun and there will be people who will read them. Because the internet has a plethora of users from all walks of life, you will find people even share their opinions on the things you write about. While this sounds like a great thing, there are also a ton of disadvantages. Having the freedom to express oneself truly brings out the ugly side in a lot of people. Especially if you’re a mom who writes about the experience of being a mom, you are bound to have a ton of people shredding you down based on what you wrote or perhaps, calling you a bad mother. That may end up taking a hit on your confidence. So, without further ado, let’s look at a few things that being a mom blogger taught me:

1. Judge-y Judy

Be prepared to be judged by tons of people on the internet about every single parenting decision. The minute you put out a picture of your child, there will be tons of criticism that come flooding your way. But hey, don’t lose hope, and don’t let that question your parenting ability. Besides, when you put your life out for people to see, there is bound to be some criticism coming your way. But you will be able to tell which ones are constructive and which ones are outright hateful.

2. Community Of Support

You might be skeptical to share personal details about your life but you will find a community of people who will stand by you, console you, and comfort you. Because there are thousands of people who would have faced the same hardships as you and they will flood you with love and support. Be it a miscarriage, premature delivery, or any other complication, you will find that your readers become your friends and share your pain with you so you will never feel alone.

3. Work, Work, Work

It’s not easy to be a blogger and make a living out of it. Writing about things you’re passionate about as a hobby and for a living are two completely different things. When trying to make a career out of being a blogger, there is a lot of work that goes into it. From constantly creating fresh content to keeping an active and engaging social media, it is not a walk in the park.

4. Show Support

Several other bloggers are in the same space as you. It is important to render your support and uplift them when needed. Not only will you make some long-lasting friendships but bloggers who have been in the industry for a long time can help you make the right decisions. They can also provide you with other connections that they have made throughout the industry to build a name for yourself. You can do the same for newbie bloggers too. So, by supporting each other, you’ve built a community that stands up for each other.

5. Make A Difference

One of the most fulfilling things about being a blogger is the power of words. The content you write can make a huge difference to society and help people in need. Writing about your experience not only helps you express yourself but also helps save others who are struggling with similar things.

6. Everlasting Memories

It is common practice for mothers to make a scrapbook of the different phases of their children’s life. But with this physical copy, there are so many risks. It could get lost, destroyed, worn out, or misplaced. Using the internet helps you document moments that last forever. All you have to do to rehash those wonderful memories is click one button.

7. (Not) Free Stuff

Bloggers often get free stuff from brands that they write about. It’s a marketing gimmick that is followed by brands and people tend to think these are free. While the bloggers don’t have to pay a monetary amount for the stuff they are given, brands expect them to promote the products by writing about them or sharing their experiences on social media to gain attention. So, are they really free?

There are thousands of bloggers who write about the same things as you. It’s up to you to stand out from the crowd and make your blogs be known. However, it is also equally important to support one another and never spread hate on the internet. As someone wise once said, “If you don’t have anything kind to say, don’t say anything at all”.
