11 Thanksgiving Side Dishes

While the turkey is going to grab all the eyeballs, side dishes are arguably just as important in the Thanksgiving menu. After carving your favorite roast, all eyes are going to be on the side dishes. And you want something that keeps your guests full and happy on the special day. These side dishes will go incredibly well with your holiday roast, whether it is turkey or ham. From crispy potatoes to glazed sprouts, we have all the side dish recipes you are going to need this holiday season to take your Thanksgiving feast to the next level.

1. Crispy Potatoes

Boil the potatoes with a pinch of salt and baking soda until they are soft. Drain the water and let them dry. Now line the potatoes on a baking tray. Add thyme, garlic, rosemary, and generously drizzle olive oil on top. Sprinkle some salt and pepper. Using a spoon, gently flatten the potatoes. Now pop it in the oven and roast for about 20-25 minutes until the skin turns golden brown.

2. Candied Yams

Peel and slice the sweet potatoes and lay them in a baking dish. For the syrup, combine sugar, cinnamon sticks, butter, orange juice, salt, and some nutmeg in a saucepan. Bring it to a boil and continue to stir until it slightly thickens. Now add the syrup over the yams and let it bake for about 1 hour. They will perfectly compliment the savory dishes on your plate.

3. Glazed Brussels Sprouts

Cook the Brussels sprouts in a skillet with some oil until they are golden at the bottom. Now, add water and let it steam until it becomes soft. In a pan, add mustard, vinegar, honey, and garlic to form a syrup. Pour the syrup over the sprouts and let it cook for a few minutes. You will be rewarded with delish sprouts that are both crisp and tender.

4. Wrapped Green Bean Bundles

Wrap 7-10 green beans with a bacon strip. Use a toothpick to secure the wrap. Coat it with some butter and brown sugar syrup. Cover with foil and pop it in the oven for 20 minutes. Take out and serve. Ummm. Yum!

5. Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Boil potatoes with some salt and cook until they’re really soft. Drain the water and add cream cheese. Now mash the potatoes and mix it until it’s blended well with the cream cheese. Take another saucepan and melt butter and milk over medium heat. Pour it over the mashed potatoes. Combine well and sprinkle some salt and pepper.

6. Glazed Baby Carrots

Combine vinegar, maple syrup, oil, and red pepper flakes in a bowl. Add carrots and toss them with the rest of the ingredients so they’re well coated. Sprinkle with some salt and pepper. Lay them in a baking sheet and roast it for 30 minutes. Maple glazed roasted carrots – done!

7. Roasted Veggies

In a large pot, half boil Brussel sprouts, carrots, sweet potatoes, and beets. Now lay them in a baking tray and toss with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Roast for about 20-25 minutes until lightly charred. Now, dig in!

8. Sausage Gravy

Cook sausage in a skillet over medium heat for about 6-7 minutes. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and stir for 1 minute. Now pour milk and bring it to a boil. Let it simmer for 5 minutes over low flame. Season with salt and pepper. You can serve this yummy gravy with buns or biscuits.

9. Bacon-Wrapped Carrots

Peel the carrots and wrap each one of them in bacon strips. Place the carrots on the baking sheet and coat them in maple syrup. Bake until they’re crispy on the outside and tender inside.

10. Baked Sweet Potatoes

On a baking tray, lay the sweet potatoes and a few shallots. Sprinkle some kosher salt on top. Bake them for about 40 minutes or until they become tender. Once they’re cool, cut open the middle with a knife. Top the dish with a pat of butter and season it with salt and pepper.

11. Butter Garlic Potatoes

Make accordion cuts on each potato and place them on a baking dish. Whisk together melted butter, garlic, and olive oil in a bowl. Using a brush, coat the potatoes with the mixture. Season with salt and pepper. Bake until they turn golden. You can brush them with the melted butter every 15 minutes or sprinkle some mozzarella on top.
