Origin, Meaning, And History Of Clarita

Clarita is the Spanish variant of Clara that derives from the Late Latin title Clarus meaning bright, clear, and famous. Many religious personalities in history bore the name, and it came to represent a traditional god-fearing feminine name.

One of the earliest disciples of Francis of Assisi was the Italian saint Clare of Assisi. She established the Order of Poor Ladies, a female Franciscan monastic order, and authored their Rule of Life, the first set of monastic rules known to have been written by a woman. After her demise, the religious order she founded was given a new name in her honor: the Order of Saint Clare, also known today as the Poor Clares. The female members of this order lived in an enclosure as opposed to the Franciscan friars, who traveled the nation preaching. Such itinerant existence was unthinkable for women at the time. They lived by doing manual labor and praying. The nuns kept almost perfectly quiet, walked barefoot, slept on the ground, and avoided eating meat.

Clarette, Claretta, and Chiarina are the diminutives of the name Clarita. In English, the variants are Clare, Clarinda, Claire, Kiara. Claire (French), Chiara (Italian), and Klara (German) are the popular variants in other languages and cultures.

Santa Clarita is one of the most populated cities within Los Angeles County, located within the state of California in the United States.

The name is not common in popular culture but does appear in the horror-comedy TV series by the name of Santa Clarita Diet, which was created by Victor Fresco for Netflix. It starred Timothy Olyphant and Drew Barrymore in the leading roles. Televisa produced Luz Clarita, a Mexican telenovela that premiered on Canal de las Estrellas on September 30th, 1996, and concluded on February 21st, 1997. It is a reimagining of the series Andrea Celeste and Chispita. Mapat L. de Zatarain was the producer.
